Scrap 1.x PDF Print
Written by Administrator

We added 4 things to 1.5.2 and then decided that with everything we've learned in the past couple of months that we would scrap 1.x series and restructure everything now.

We would have liked to continue on but it was too much of a mess so we are starting over (kind of) and porting all our code to the new model. A lot of it will stay the same and just re-write for efficiency, but everything is getting called ffrom the index, and a lot more will be in functions or content pages that are included. I was also working on another guys project (php4dvd) and wrote the installer for him. I will be taking those lessons learned and implementing them in the next installer.

Hopefully when release date comes around we will be ready but admittedly we are undertaking a lot. In the end though I beleive that everyone will be happy with the next release. So we plan on releasing it as close to the date as possible but ulitmately when its done itll be done.

1.5.1 site updates PDF Print

Monday, 24 March 2008 14:01

We have made a couple updates to reflect 1.5.1

Change Log is now up

New countdown in place. We are hoping for an august 1 release. We are about 2 weeks over the 4 month mark to take into account vacation, and various other projects. But the next release will hopfully flesh out a couple areas of the app that have been in there but havent gotten a lot of attention.

Install/Upgrade notes on site have been updated slightly.

Download link for 1.5.1 in old versions is now listed

Road map has been updated stating the changes we made on time, ahead of time, and changes that havent been made

Lastly, we wanted to just note that the screenshots may be updated with next release if the icon is done by then. That is, if we feel like doing it. If not we will wait for the 2.0 release since we plan on drastically changing the interface to make things flow a little better and look more profesional.

If you didnt notice we updated the latest version section on the side. It now has the latest version number. Also wording is changed so people know that the download count is overall and not specific to a version. We will most likely change this to the version count once we gain a little more momentum.

The next version countdown should be back today, once we figure out when we want to release the next verison.

Unfortunately they new icon didn't get finished in time for this release. We have it finished but need to tweak the colloring and also make it into two different banners. One for this site and one for the program.

We resubmitted this to Hot scripts. Now it is under the name DL Monitor, and has the most recent version number. Once they publish that we will update the old Download Tracker link on Hot Scripts to point to DL Monitor. Usually this only takes a day or two.

Besides that we've had 20 downloads of 1.5.1 and no one has reported anything strange. Hopefully that is a good thing. Also we are building up our list of exculdes since we went live on our installation. We will include the entire list with each release. We add all the bots to this list so that they dont appear in our download history logs and dont affect our counts. This will help us (and therefore you) to have more accurate stats on the number of users you are having and not the number of bots crawling your site.

It is with great honor that we release 1.5.1.  We were planning on this being a small release but it ranks in as our 2nd biggest release. Last release we had 65 changes and in this one we have 61 changes. So I recommend upgrading as soon as you can.

To upgrade there are instructions but here’s a quick rundown of what we did.

1.       Backup our entire install directory

2.       Log out (we were logged in, in order to do a final backup of the db)

3.       Delete everything except the settings file and the directory where we have all of our file for download (this is hidden, you may not choose to put your files in the install directory but we do)

4.       Upload the new files

5.       Set permissions for store directory

6.       Click on the header

7.       Click next on the first screen

8.       Click upgrade on the next screen

9.       Click on (it fills in everything for you from the settings file if you are upgrading)

10.   Ensured that everything was green.

11.   Deleted the install dir

12.   Logged in

We've finished the installer and are now strictly working on qualifying firefox. This is what happends when you create a lightwieght lightbox replica so that you dont have to distrubute someone elses code. Oh well.

We are working through the issues (there are several) but we beleive we have identified them all. So it should be just a matter of time to implement and test the problem areas we've discovered. The release is looking good for next week, though it still is a little early to tell.

Lastly, it is with great pride that I announce that we officially have a proffesional icon. The colors still need tweaked a bit, and we need to decide on how to incoperate it into a banner, but its done. This will hopefully allow us to brand things a little better, create buttons for links, create buddy icons, and shirts, and ....oh who are we kidding. It will just make the program look a little more professional.

A special thanks to the lovely designer Wink

It is with great regret that i inform you that we will not be releasing version 1.5.1 on time. I figured this would happen. We are still adding last minute features that will hopefully help error proof our installation a little bit more. Also, we noticed that some of the new features do not work properly in Firefox (shame on us) so we will be fixing those items. I'm still trying to get my designer to come up with an icon/banner for us to use, any users that are art included are encourage to submit anything concepts or anything you can whip together. I have ZERO art abilities. It is long overdue that we have something solid to brand the product around. Once we implement and test the clean installer we will be creating the upgrade process. This shouldn’t take that long to complete as we didn’t change that much with the db structure and off the top of my head I don’t believe we modified any data in any columns so it would just be adding some fields etc. Once that is complete we should be on the ground rolling. Once the upgrade script is done i hope we would be done all the program fixes so it would be just testing the upgrade script in several scenarios and we will be done. Unfortunately i have been abnormally busy (of course) and so has the little help i have. I will try to have things hammered out by end of next week. Keep checking back in case we would announce a release.
